independence

i wore this sweet dress to celebrate the Bicentennial in 1976. my mama made it. the material features red flowers, spinning wheels, and the declaration, “I like you, America!” i was two weeks away from my second birthday. M is 3 months away. so the dress is a bit too long. or maybe i was taller. though i can’t imagine a child with longer legs than this one has. she wore it to the care center on Wednesday. the residents were impressed–calling her a princess, saying she looked just fine. someone even said she looked Dutch!
