englishes

16 September 2013 by Kortney

last week Open Culture shared this video of a boy and his pop saying Shakespeare with an accent that more approximates how the lines would have been said in Shakespeare’s time.

then in our school reading, we came to the beginnings of English as the Celts meet the Angles and Saxons and the great bards tell the story of Beowulf.  so we needed to hear what that sounded like too.

and then we needed a bit of the Seamus Heaney translation too!

and then all these Englishes made me remember the podcast that Julia at Brave Writer made earlier this year.  the changes over time are quite a revelation to the children.

(youtube is pretty cool!)
