24 books in 24 days :: our favorites
another quiet favorite is Night Tree by Eve Bunting. the story follows a family’s preparations for their yearly trek out the the woods to decorate a Christmas tree for the forest animals. (Susan, do you know this book? i think you’d especially love it!) the relationships between the brother and sister and the parents and children are warm, but still realistic, gentle but not overly sweet. we usually save this book until later in the month, right around the Solstice.Night Tree is a book that is open to magic and wonder and the motion of the Spirit. and that makes it a rare gem.
That sounds like a fun book (and tradition). Have you read How the Hibernators Came to Bethlehem? It’s another great one with animals. http://impossibleway.livejournal.com/324323.html
no, we haven’t heard of The Hibernators! it’s going on our list. i love books the books that include animals in the Christmas story too–the whole earth is full of the glory of God.
We love this book, too!
