Soul Rest…and ICAD!

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.  Matthew 11.28-30

I came across the phrase “soul rest” in something Dallas Willard wrote.  Though I only have intimations of what he means, it called to mind coloring as a spiritual practice: making time to get quiet + move your hand across the page.  A time to step into the unforced rhythms of grace.

June 1st marks the beginning of the Index Card a Day Challenge hosted by the super-talented Tammy at Daisy Yellow.  This will be the third year we are participating…and the first year I’ve had to purchase cards before we started.  I *might* have the tendency to overbuy at back-to-school sales!

ICAD is a great way to jumpstart an art practice.  It’s free to participate.  Tammy provides loads of inspiration on her blog during the challenge…she also made a pretty, printable zine!  The scale is small, the supplies near to hand.  Just take pen to paper.  It’s not about creating beautiful images.  It’s about making space for creativity in your busy day.  It’s about starting a new habit.  If you miss a day or two, that’s ok.  You are not behind.  Just begin again.  And when the 61 days are up, you’ll have a neat stack of cards to write your daily to-do list on!

Keep company as we practice making space for quiet, making space for art, making space for the Spirit.
