The Most Surprising Part of Organization

For the past few years–as schooling demands have grown, as more children were born, as I began paid work–my need to get organized has grown almost exponetially.  And there are some pieces that I just didn’t get, pieces that would have kept me floundering if I didn’t have a guide.  screen-shot-2016-09-10-at-3-01-02-pm

It takes on-going work to keep the system going.  I could imagine working to set up a routine or calendar, but I didn’t know that I would have to revisit and revise and refresh it.  Every week!

The weekly review has been one of the biggest game changers for me as I began working through Simplified Organization.  It keeps me on track.  But more, the weekly review makes our school days run more smoothly.  Sure, I can always make a quick copy or find a book on the fly.  But when all those pieces are already in place and waiting for us on Monday morning it’s just that much easier to get the week started off right.

I try to do my weekly review on Saturday.  Ideally, the rest of the family would leave for an hour or so.  I’d make a cup a tea and light a candle.  Of course, it doesn’t always happen that way!  Here’s what I try to think through…whether or not I get time alone:

  • Look at the calendar for outside commitments or appointments
  • Make a meal plan that reflects those commitments
  • Skim homeschooling plans and add the week’s work to the clipboards

Do you review your plans each week?  What patterns or pitfalls are you watching for?  I’d love to hear your experiences!
