Finding My Strengths

I love personality tests, and last year I began learning about Strengths Finder. The idea is to place your focus in areas where you are already strong instead of trying to bolster your deficits. I took the test and then did a bit of preliminary reading on my top five strengths–they’re listed below.

Rachael Herron suggests thinking about how your strengths apply specifically to your writing life. So I spent some time thinking and writing (Intellection for the win!). And these favorite quotes surfaced.

Moon through the window

Learning :: Morning Quiet Is Essential

In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength. –Isaiah 30.15

Intellection :: Think Through Writing

A writer is not so much someone who has something to say as he is someone who has found a process that will bring about new things he would not have thought of if he had not started to say them. –William Stafford

Discipline :: Don’t Be Afraid of Goals

When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don’t have to wait to be happy. You can be satisfied anytime your system is running. –James Clear

Connections :: Trace the Connections

It’s not the book you start with, it’s the book that book leads you to. –Austin Kleon

Belief :: Trust the Next Step

It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work. –Wendell Berry
