One Word Prompts
Writing prompts are funny things. Sometimes they are too specific; other times they offer too much choice. I have found that a single word is enough to get my hand moving. The page is no longer blank and I am always surprised where I end up.
One way that I am reading like a writer is to collect words as I read. Right now I am reading Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit by Lyanda Lynn Haupt with a group of poets at Poet Camp. It’s an evocative book that is full of good words. So I got a blank poetry postcard out of the stash and started a list…then I typed it up so that I could share it with you.
My goal is to be writing every day over the next month and then to spend the last bit of the year in revision. I am picking a word and writing for seven minutes each morning. It’s good to be at the desk no matter what else is happening. I would love to hear what comes up for you!
