parenting in the pew

we went to the early service yesterday.  which means that we are home with newspaper in hand, finished with church by 9 in the morning.  the day stretches out before us.

i was nursing Mabel as i listened to the epistle reading (Colossians 3.12-15). it struck me as perfect parenting advice:

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,
bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
forbearing one another and forgiving one another…
and above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness
and let the peace of God rule in your hearts…and be ye thankful.

not raising kids God’s way or even grace-based discipline.  just the simple respect and love that we show to our sisters and brothers in Christ.  because that’s who they are after all.
