leaves upon leaves

the owl house is surrounded by trees…we’ve got an evergreen on the east side of the house, two great, neglected horse chestnuts in back, and a maple on the west side.

and just now, we’ve got lots of leaves.  we were out raking (what else!) this morning, and our letter carrier stopped by with the mail.  she exclaimed, how lucky you are to have leaves to rake!

i wasn’t really thinking of it in exactly those terms.  i was worried about the coming rains and the endless other chores i could be working on.  but Barbara was right, we are lucky.  we are lucky to have good work on a brisk fall morning, something to put our hands to.
