homeschool happy: the basket

a few years ago, when Mabel was turning five, i bought a basket like these from the farm out on Sauvie Island.  i called it my homeschool basket, and it holds all we need to do school each day.

i keep it filled with the current read alouds, our memory work and song book, and the children’s clipboards.  if i’m really on top of my game, the clipboards contain a week’s worth of work.  but of late, i’ve just been filling it day to day.  i also keep a cigar box tucked inside.  it’s filled with an extra pencil and pen, scissors and glue.  that way if a project presents itself, we don’t have to hunt out supplies or move to the table.  we can follow the inspiration!

the basket makes it easy to do school where we like.  if the baby is asleep we can stretch out on the floor of the living room; if he’s awake, we move the basket out of his reach! the weather this week is getting warmer, so you can bet that we’ll be taking the basket outside.  i love the simplicity of our homeschool basket. there’s no hunting for supplies or books; everything has a home.  it’s a simple way to streamline our learning time.  it helps make space for joy.  plus, it’s pretty.
