friday flashback :: parenting in the pew

i was thinking about which post i could use for this week’s flashback, and i choose this one because i remembered that it was written way back in 2008 when we only had one child.  one growing toddler.  just one.  but i had forgotten that she was breastfeeding.  that just adds a layer of sweetness to this bit of our past.  that early morning with the paper sounds pretty sweet too!

we went to the early service yesterday.  which means that we are home with newspaper in hand, finished with church by 9 in the morning.  the day stretches out before us.  i was nursing Mabel as i listened to the epistle reading (Colossians 3.12-15). it struck me a s perfect parenting advice:

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,

bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

forbearing one another and forgiving one another…

and above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness

and let the peace of God rule in your hearts…and be ye thankful.

not raising kids God’s way or even grace-based discipline.  just the simple respect and love that we show to our sisters and brothers in Christ.  because that’s who they are after all.
