The Wonder Project :: Prayer

All the way to Heaven is heaven–St Catherine of Siena

The Wonder Project

For many years as an adult I didn’t participate in much private prayer.  The quiet times of my youth felt stale and forced, but I didn’t have anything to take their place.  I wanted a daily way to connect with God, a way to say Help, Thanks, Wow!  I’m learning now that different practices fit different seasons of life.  And that our temperaments influence the ways we approach prayer.  Here are a few simple practices that have brought peace and light.

  • Every evening before bed we share something that we’re thankful for–a place in the ordinary round where we saw God moving.  Kimberlee Conway Ireton writes eloquently about practicing the Examen with children.
  • Pray-As-You-Go is a delicious respite during busy days.  Beautiful music, a bit of Scripture, time for silent reflection and prayer–all in about 15 minutes.
  • Roberta Bondi talks about what she calls Kitchen Table Prayer–just sitting in the presence of Jesus, acknowledging that Jesus is here with us.

Let us remember…that we are in the holy presence of God.
