what we need is here

our boy has arrived. and mightily. Nicolas the Wonderworker.

we were so busy marking his seventh day that we forgot to celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day on 30 April. but poems keep. here’s mine…picked out by our sweet friends.

What We Need Is Here
by Wendell Berry

Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear
in the ancient faith: what we need
is here. And we pray, not
for new earth or heaven, but to be
quiet in heart, and in eye,
clear. What we need is here.

it makes me shake every time i read it. a good reminder for a mama of a new one. i need that quiet, clear eye. that steady heart. and what i need is here, near to hand, ready for the taking.

(don’t you just love our two hands with the little?)

  1. Congratulations, Kortney!! I owe you dinner (Bea has been sick with the croup, so I’d like to wait until she’s not contagious before bringing you food!) – can I give you a call later in the week about running a meal over?

  2. A–

we are covered for meals for the next few days…would next week work? or the weekend? really, anytime is great for a dinner delivered! just take care of your little one right now.
