gifts of the season :: twelfth night

:: pictures from a walk to the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers ::

a few nights ago as i was doing the bedtime reading (Black Fox of Lorne by Marguerite de Angeli–highly recommended Viking story), Nicolas started talking about the first day of school.  he happily remembered the fresh journals and stickers that were waiting for him at the breakfast table.

i’ve been saving new Dover coloring books (Black Beauty and Anne of Green Gables) for our return to our regular school time.  with the addition of new crayons, it marked a special end to this Christmas season.

we also made M&M cookies from a mix-in-a-jar that our California cousins made for us.  it was supposed to be a gentle return to our structured lessons….the gift of the day for me was that the older children munched cookies and worked in their new coloring books while i spent most of the morning bouncing a grumpy boy who will be 1 very soon!

  1. Love this and the picture it paints. Isn’t it amazing what they remember and mark as special? Usually not the things that would be on Pinterest, but the smaller things instead. Thanks for linking up!

  2. papa sam and I went to this spot last time we were in town…it looks prettier in the fog…I like you in the blue jacket Nico…and all of you traipsing about.
