The Heart of Advent

Early on in the pandemic, author Penelope Wilcock posted video readings from two of her books, A Day and a Life and The Clear Light of Day. These were both books I had read and loved, but hearing them in Pen’s excellent read-aloud voice was exquisite. She’s got a poet’s ear for silence and pause–exactly what we’re after in this Advent time of waiting.

Now she is reading from her collection for Advent called Into the Heart of Advent. In the introduction she says, “Imagination is the gateway into transformative understanding…you can’t make change or develop spiritually without engaging the imagination.”

I’m putting the kettle on and gathering around the hearth to listen to Pen walk me through Advent. Won’t you join me?

  1. I loved the voice and demeanor of the reader/writer and squiggle of her nose from time to time. The stars with all their incandescent sparkling distance call to us as a brother or sister. So filled by the redemption of Christ. Thank you dear Kortney.
