24 books in 24 days :: our favorites
last year i went on sort of a Rumer Godden bender. she’s good that way, plenty to read. we read The Story of Holly and Ivy together for the first time last December. it’s one of those strange books that are too long to be proper picture books, but have way more illustrations (by Barbara Cooney!) than chapter books normally do. so it’s perfect for reading at bedtime over a few nights. the story is of a girl and a doll who find a true home with each other.
the toys in this book are so much more than simple playthings; they have a lively relationship with their children that seems true to life.
I just love Barbara Cooney. There’s another book she illustrated–The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree: http://impossibleway.livejournal.com/416931.html Oh, another! Let’s Keep Christmas: http://impossibleway.livejournal.com/416069.html I am so blessed that my library has lots of her books, even ones that are out of print.
oh wow! thank you so much for not only sending the titles but also the links back to your place, Brandy. both of these books look just so perfect. peace keep you this night.
